Peter Gabriel, Dave Matthews and Solsbury Hill Part 2

Dave Matthews on the cove of Rolling Stones

I thought about authenticity in light of  Peter Gabriel’s Solsbury Hill and those who attempt to remake the music. I was browsing around YouTube and listening to remakes of “Solsbury Hill.” I thought they were really bad. What makes this song so great is that it is straight forward. He gives you the place and tells it in such a way that you not only can connect with it but that you want to be there to experience it too. Every other hill will pale in comparison and will never do. Only on Solsbury Hill can we can experience the feelings of Peter Gabriel and not someone else. Because the fact of the matter is that the only one that can create that feeling is the one that originated the experience in the first place.

I respect Dave Matthews’ talent. He writes songs that get to the point and they’re experiences that we can relate to. When Dave sings the song he is attempting to recreate the feeling that Peter did but that just isn’t going to happen. It seems that if someone is going to remake a song then that person needs to recreate a variation of that song. Well, here are to videos that you can watch and listen to. Let me know what you think.

Alright, two things Dude. 1 - Salisbury Hill is about his breakup with his band. The inevitability of it. Look it up. and 2. bespoke is a verb.

I certainly appreciate your comment but I am a little confused with my interpretation of the tone. I did try to find out what the song way about but I couldn’t find anything…so thanks for the update. One thing that I do remember from my childhood is that I loved eating Salisbury steak.
